How far will communication barriers drop?

September 22, 2007

Electronic devices such as ipods and and cell phones constantly illustrate to me the steady march of technology to accomplishing ever more impressive feats.

So the other day I was looking at a program called Dragon Dictate that typed as you speak which got me considering what will be developed next to make our lives easier. One of the technologies that I would love to see is the development of an Internet babel fish that will allow smooth communication independent of  language barriers.

Not the crappy translation programs  that are available today that “translate” web pages in other languages. Most of the free ware utilities that I have used to translate web pages really don’t do a very good job.

With technology that breaks down the communication barriers and allows real time communication many doors would open to distance education. With the translation technology it could then be possible to learn form experts all over the world and converse with them in real time.
